Bhrigu Samhita is created by Rishi Bhrigu. And this knowledge came into existence because of the Rishi Bhrigu as we know and he is the son of lord Shiva. (Yes, he is thought the son of Lord Brahma, but here is why) He came into existence because of lord Brahma, Agni Dev and Lord Shiva and finally he was given to lord Shiva. The story is like this. Lord Shiva was supposed to do some Yagna and that time he had invited to lord Brahma to become an Achrya of that Yagna. Something happened and then everybody got to know about this and all the deva and Apsaras came to watch this Yagna. During that, the lord Brahma was supposed to give aahuti to the Yagna, but he was watching apsaras and he didn't paying attention to the yagna and he realized it afterwards. But due to this, he regretted and then he took his Virya and gave aahuti to Agni. And three children were born. Bhrigu, Angira and Kavi. Lord Shiva wanted the children as he was the one who wanted to do this Yagna so he said he is the father. Lord Brahma wanted the children as he was the one who gave his virya. And Agni dev also wanted the children as from him all three were born. Afterwards, all deva decided and gave Bhrigu Rishi to Lord Shiva, Angira to Agni dev and Kavi to Lord Brahma.
Now, as you know, he became one of the seven rishis due to his prayers and sadhna. He got married with Khyati, the daughter of daksha and he has 2 sons: Dhata and Vidhata and one daughter: Shree (Devi Lakshmi). As you know, she got married with lord Vishnu.
One day, there was a get to gather of all rishis near the river Saraswati. And you asked the question who is the best lord. Then all rishis decided to examine all of the lords. Well, here is the difficult task. Who will do this? They all were afraid to do this. At last, Rishi Bhrigu (the biggest risk taker) decided to work on this. He went to Brahma lok first and at that time, lord Brahma was doing meeting with all people. He entered and sat in the corner without doing namaskar to Lord Brahma. He was very angry by seeing this. But then because he believed him as his son before, so forgave him. So, rishi Bhrigu concluded that lord Brahma is "Rajasik". Then he went to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva was very happy and he came to hug him as he was his son. But rishi didn’t hug him and sat in the side at Kailash. So, lord shiva got angry and then he took his trishula to kill him, but devi Parvati saved the rishi. He concluded lord shiva is Tamashik. Well, here is the surprise. Then he went to lord Vishnu. Good thing about the Vaikunth: it is open all the time for all. He was sleeping and his daughter was near him (Lakshmi devi). He went there and kicked on lord vishnu's chest. Lord Vishnu woke up and he touched Bhrigu rishi’s feet and asked for forgiveness for: his chest is very hard so rishi might be hurt. So, finally he concluded that he is Satvik. And that foot mark became Bhrigu Rekha which we can see on the chest of lord Vishnu in many photos.
But Devi Lakshmi got angry and she cursed that she won’t live in the houses of Brahmin. But afterwards, she realized the purpose of rishi Bhrigu and then asked her father to make one book called Bhrigu Samhita based on Planets and teach your generations and by which the Brahmin can get their Roti.
