Root chakra or the Muladhara chakra is the foundation of the body and mind. It is the one who supplies us the energy for the survival. Survival was the only focus from the womb to become 1 year. During that you were unaware of the outside world and you desire only to be fed and be safe. This chakra is the seat of instincts. It grounds you and gives you the energy for life’s trials, fight and fight’s response. Root chakra is located at the base of the body. It governs auto-immune and skeletal system, also your bowels and teeth. Imbalance creates frequent problems with legs, feet, knee, base of spines, buttocks and sciatica.


When to work on this chakra?
• Facing financial or work related difficulties
• Feel disconnected with the world around you
• Feel insecure, fearful or thinking selfishly all the time and you don’t know why are you doing so
• Feel stuck somewhere or in any life’s aspects or rigidity
• Physical or psychological paralysis condition
• Blind faith in something
Possible causes of imbalance:
• May passed through trauma
• Painful birth
• Things you faced were beyond your control
• Separate from mother too early
• Physical abuse
• Frequent beating or malnourishment as a child
• Extreme worry or panic shocks
• Homeless, losing job or divorce of parents when too young
• Life-threatening situations
• Kidnap victims
• Death survivals
• Major illness or surgery


Exercise: Being grounded is very important to take all the energy from this chakra. So, whatever you do, try to do it with utmost grace. Many people feel tight in some parts of the body, whereas feel relax in the other parts, so balance happens only everything becomes proper. Just to check this energy. Stand still and tall on the both feet. Now, calm yourself. Put both feet a little apart and then your heels should be beneath your hips. Close your eyes. Balance till you are satisfied. Now, notice your tendency whether you stand on heels or toes. Gently balance till you are over the mid-point. Now, see your weight. Make sure you are giving equal weight to both feet. Your all 10 fingers of feet should be firmly attached to the ground. Now, feel your each bone and keep them straight. Bring your shoulders straight and chin parallel to the ground. Stand as tall as possible and feel the rhythmic breath. Experience that your body is firmly rooted and feel the freedom of mind. Now, your physical posture is firmly rooted and asks yourself, “Where do you stand now?”
